When it comes to DIY not everyone has either the time or money to do a whole make over in their living room. As nice as the idea, transforming your whole room can be costly. However Clickoak has come up with a few tips to change the look of your room without spending a lot of money.
There are plenty of ways to give your living room a fresh look and a bit of colour, perfect in time for spring.
- Paint just one wall – you can add a big splash of colour by just painting one wall of your living room. This can really change the focal point of the living room without having to do the whole room. If you have a cream living room, why not add a light brown, dark cream or a subtle tone darker than you’re other walls. If you are feeling brave why not go for a bold colour- again this depends on your taste and personality.
- Add some Pillows – Nothing adds colour to a room like pillows, not only can they make your sofa look new and full of personality but they can become a great focus point to add some colour to your room. Why not go for a bold colour- different tone to your sofa so they stand out and make the room look fresh and different. Floral patterns and spotty designs tend to be very popular as you can use two tones of colours.
- Add a touch of Green- Green plants or flowering plants can really brighten up any room. Plants can give real personality to a room and you do not have to have many. If you think your struggle to look after the plants, why not have a look at artificial ones. You can get some really good ones at a great value price.
- Stand up Lamps – whatever kind of living room you have, a stand up lamp can really add a good point of interest. If you have a traditional room, why not stick to a traditional stand up lamp. If you are going for a modern look why not pick a nice stand up lamp and add a touch of colour with a swanky shade.
- Spice up the floor – A colourful rug placed in the centre of the room or in front of a chair or coffee table can add texture and colour to any living room. Interesting patters or a bright colours works well with planer living room.
- Freshen up your chairs – If you have a small chair, such as a desk chair or side chair why not consider covering it some new fabric or add a nice bright cushion, again this is dependent on your taste and personality.
- Reflect your colour- Try having a nice big mirror on a bare wall, choose a different type of mirror with an interesting border or frame. Place it on the wall opposite where you have the colour, so it reflects the colour on to the wall.
- Get some Art – why not buy a nice piece of art for your room not only does it add decorative touches but also introduces colours and shapes you might not be able to use normally in your living room.
- Paint your bookshelves – a lovely touch of colour and interest can be added to a room by simply painting your shelves or bookcases. Why not try painting the frame outside one colour and inside a different colour. The colour will help the items on your shelves pop out and look important.
- Snuggle with a throw over – why not add some colour with a throw over to your sofa or chairs. Choose a colour that matches something else in your room, making it cosy and inviting. It is also practical as it can keep you warm when you are col.
